 Amethyst is the birthstone for February. The word comes from the ancient Greek word “amethustos” meaning “not intoxicated”. It was believed that amethyst would protect against drunkenness, and it was thought to be an antidote to poison. Ancient Greeks wore amethyst and used it in wine goblets because of this belief. Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz and its color ranges from pale lilac to deep purple.

- Prasiolite: Prasiolite is a type of green amethyst that is produced through heat treatment of purple amethyst.
